Mac vs. TheBalm vs. Sleek Blush vs. Elf

Heute mal ein kleiner Blush Vergleich der Klassiker Mac Springsheen, Elf Candid Coral, TheBalm Hot Mama und Sleek Rose Gold.

Today I am going to do a comparison between the classic Mac Springsheen, Elf Candid Coral, The Balm Hot Mama and Sleek Rose Gold.

Auf den ersten Blick kann man schon erkennen, dass es eher um 2 Vergleiche als um einen gehen wird. Ähnlichkeiten haben nämlich der Mac Springsheen mit dem Elf Candid Coral und der TheBalm Hot Mama mit dem Sleek Rose Gold. Wir haben also jeweils einen Highend und einen eher im Drogeriebereich angesiedelten Kandidaten im Vergleich. Aber zunächst einmal möchte ich den Vergleich allgemeiner halten...

Farbe:

Springsheen und Candid Coral sind wesentlich Peach- / Coralfarbiger wohingegen Hot Mama und Rose Gold wesentlich mehr Pink sind.

Schimmer:

Alle 4 haben einen goldenen Schimmer, am dezentesten fällt der Schimmer beim Mac Springsheen aus. Am intensivsten ist der Schimmer bei Candid Coral und Rose Gold dicht gefolgt von Hot Mama. Es handelt sich bei allen vier Produkten allerdings tatsächlich nur um einen Schimmer und nicht um Glitzer.

Pigmentierung:

Der Sleek Blush ist am besten Pigmentiert, am schlechtesten schneidet hier der Elf Blush ab. Mac und TheBalm teilen sich den zweiten Platz was die Pigmentierung betrifft.

Inhalt/Preis:

Mac: 6g für 21,50€

TheBalm: 7,08g für 18€

Elf: 4g für 4,49€

Sleek: 8g für 6€

Sleek hat das beste Verhältnis von Preis zur Menge, gefolgt von Elf, TheBalm und dann Mac.

Mac ist mehr als 4,5 mal so teuer wie die gleiche Menge an Sleek Produkt.

Mac Blushes haben eine tolle Qualität, aber mal abgesehen von der Grundsatzfrage, ob sie nun besser sind oder nicht...4,5 mal so toll ist die Qualität vo Mac Blush gegenüber dem von Sleek sicher nicht ;)

Da man auf Grund der Farbunterschiede fairer Weise nicht Sleek mit Mac vergleichen sollte, denke ich, dass hier eher ein Vergleich zwischen Mac (Springsheen) vs. Elf (Candid Coral) angebracht wäre.

Ich würde den Elf Blush Candid Coral nicht als Dupe für den Springsheen bezeichnen. Obwohl die Ausgangsfarbe bei beiden sehr ähnlich ist, unterscheiden sie sich maßgeblich beim Effekt/Finish. Springsheen ist ein sheertone shimmer blush mit sehr dezentem Schimmer. Elf hat schon fast einen metallischen Goldschimmer, der wesentlich intensiver ist als der von Springsheen. Daher wirken die Blushes im Vergleich recht unterschiedlich.

Beim Vergleich von TheBalm (Hot Mama) vs. Sleek (Rose Gold) fallen die Unterschiede wesentlich geringer aus.

Neben dem beachtlichen preislichen Unterschied und dem geringen Mengenunterschied findet man nur kleine Abweichungen. Ich würde den Sleek Blush als ein bisschen intensiver Pigmentiert einstufen. Darüber hinaus ist der Goldschimmer beim Sleek Blush ein klein wenig intensiver als beim Hot Mama Blush. Wenn man nicht gerade Blush sammelt, braucht man meiner Meinung nach definitiv nicht beide und ich würde zum günstigeren Sleek Blush raten.

The swatches above already indicate that this might end up in two comparisons. The Mac Springsheen is pretty similar in color to the Elf Candid Coral whereas the Hot Mama from TheBalm looks pretty similar to Sleek's Rose Gold. But lets start more general...

Color:

Springsheen and Candid Coral are a lot more peach /coral whereas Hot Mama and Rose Gold are more pink.

Shimmer:

All blushes have a golden sheen. The Mac Springsheen has the least obvious sheen. Candid Coral has the most obvious sheen right after that comes the Rose Gold (sheen wise) and the Hot Mama. I like that it is only shimmer and a nice sheen rather than obvious chunks of glitter.

Pigmentation:

The Sleek Blush has the best pigmentation, the least pigmented is the Elf Blush. Mac and The Balm have about the same pigmentation.

Content/Price:

Mac: 0.21 oz for $19,50

TheBalm: 0.25 oz for $19

Elf: 0.14 oz for $3

Sleek: 0.27 oz for 6€ / $8,7

In Germany (with the German prices) you get the biggest amount of product with Sleek. In US prices it's Elf which gives you the biggest amount of product for your money. Followed by TheBalm and then comes Mac.

The price/amount of product ratio is huge between Mac and Sleek or Elf.

I don't think the quality difference is as big as the price difference you pay.

Because of the color similarity I want to compare: Mac (Springsheen) vs. Elf (Candid Coral)

The Elf Blush Candid Coral is not a dupe for Springsheen. Although they have a pretty similar color they have a different effect / finish. Springsheen is a sheertone shimmer blush with very subtle shimmer. Elf has an almost metallic gold sheen which is a lot more obvious than the on in Springsheen. That's why they look rather different.

Now I will combare TheBalm (Hot Mama) vs. Sleek (Rose Gold).

They are a lot more similar than Springsheen and Candid Coral are.

Next to the obvious price difference and the rather small difference in terms of product amount they are pretty much alike. I would say that the Sleek Blush is a little better pigmented. Other than that the gold sheen of the Sleek Blush is a tiny bit more intensive. If you are not a blush junky (like I seem to be one) you won't need both and I'd suggest you get the Sleek Blush since that is less expensive and you get more product and it looks pretty much like Hot Mama from the Balm.

Highlighter Vergleich (P2, Catrice, The Balm)

Neuerdings bin ich irgendwie zunehmend an Highlightern interessiert. So haben sich in den vergangenen Monaten einige Highlighter aus LEs eingefunden sowie der Mary-Lou Manizer von The Balm. Heute möchte ich mal ein paar Vergleich Swatches präsentieren und ein bisschen was zu den Highlightern sagen.

P2 aus der Snow Glam LE Arctic White:

Ende letzten Jahres gab es die Snow Glam LE bei P2, hier habe ich mir den Highlighter in Arctic White gekauft.

Inhalt: 10g

Preis: 3,75€

Textur: Sehr weich, fast schon zu weich.

Farbe: Rosé-Champagner

Geruch: Dezent süßlich

Effekt: Frostiger Schimmer, ähnlich dem vom The Balm Highlighter

Verpackung: Ähnlich einem Diamant "geschliffenes" transparentes Plastik Vorteil, man sieht die Farbe auch durch den Deckel.

Catrice aus der Urban Baroque LE Masquerade Ball:

Der Masquerade Ball Highlighter ist aus der Urban Baroque LE von Catrice Anfang des Jahres.

Inhalt: 8g

Preis: 4,50€

Textur: ziemlich fest

Farbe: In der Verpackung mehrfarbig (Erinnert mich an Guerlain),

aufgetragen ein ganz helles, fast weißes Pastellrosa.

Geruch: Aufdringlicher Geruch, der mich an Faschingsschminke erinnert.

Effekt: Im Vergleich zu den anderen Highlightern fast matt

Verpackung: Schwarz, mit Print, Deckel im Spiegel

Catrice aus der Enter Wonderland LE Fairy Dust:

Der Fairy Dust Highlighter ist aus der relativ aktuellen Catrice Enter Wonderland LE.

Inhalt: 10g

Preis: 4,00€

Textur: mittel fest, für mich die ideal, nicht zu bröselig und nicht so hart.

Farbe: Rosé

Geruch: Angenehm dezent süßlich.

Effekt: Ein schöner gold Sheen, der aber aufgrund der rosé Ausgangsfarbe sehr natürlich

wirkt.

Verpackung: Schlicht transparent mit Schmetterlingsprint

The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer:

Inhalt: 8,5g

Preis: ca. 20€

Textur: mittel fest mit der Tendenz zum weichen, aber nicht bröselig.

Farbe: Champagner-Gold

Geruch: Kaum vorhanden, wenn überhaupt aber eher frisch und nicht so süß

Effekt: Ein goldener Sheen, der aber im Vergleich zum Catrice Fairy Dust eher frostig ist

und daher auffälliger und etwas "unnatürlicher"

Verpackung: Hochwertige Metalldose mit Spiegel im Deckel und Pin-Up Print.

Fazit:

Mein Favorit ist zur Zeit der Catrice Highlighter Fairy Dust (den ich mir beinahe nicht gekauft hätte, weil ich schon ein paar Highlighter habe und diese nicht täglich benutze) ;)

Den Effekt finde ich am natürlichsten und die Farbe spricht mich am meisten an.

Zweiter ist der Mary-Lou Manizer, etwas zu teuer für meinen Geschmack, aber ein toller Effekt, wenn es mal etwas mehr sein darf.

Catrice Masquerade Ball und P2 Arctic White teilen sich den dritten Platz.

Today I am going to make a Highlighter comparison. I have 3 Highlighters out of drugstore brand LEs and one from The Balm.

P2 out of the Snow Glam LE (Arctic White):

Contains: 0.35 oz

Price: 3,75€

Texture: Very soft almost too soft for my taste.

Color: Rosé-Champagne

Scent: A little sweet

Effect: Frosty shimmer

Packaging: See-through lid which looks like a diamond.

Catrice out of the Urban Baroque LE (Masquerade Ball):

Contains: 0.28 oz

Price: 4,50€

Texture: rather hard

Color: In the package it is multicolored (reminds me a little of Guerlain),

applied it is a very light almost white pastel pink

Scent: A very overpowering scent that reminds me of carnival face paint

Effect: In comparison to the other highlighters it is almost mat.

Packaging: Black with a print design, it has a mirror inside.

Catrice out of the Enter Wonderland LE (Fairy Dust):

Contains: 0.35 oz

Price: 4,00€

Texture: Perfect not too soft and not too hard, right in the middle.

Color: Rosé

Scent: Pleasantly sweet not too overpowering though.

Effect: A really nive golden sheen which looks very natural because of the rosé base color

Packaging: Plain see-through with butterfly print

The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer:

Contains: 0.3 oz

Price: about 20€

Texture: perfect, not too soft not too hard but with a tendency to beeing more soft than hard

Color: Champagne-Gold

Scent: Almost no scent if any it is more fresh than sweet.

Effect: goldener sheen, which is a little more frosty and thus less natural than the Carice

Fairy Dust.

Packaging: metal tin with a mirror inside and a Pin-Up print at the outside.

Conclusion:

My favorite is the Catrice Fairy Dust highlighter (which I almost didn't buy because I have a few highlighters and don't use them everyday) ;)

I love the effect it has it is rather natural and the color is just sooo pretty.

Second favorite would have to be the Mary-Lou Manizer from The Balm, even though I think it is a bit too pricy (especially because there are really nice and less pricy alternatives). But I do like the effect of this one a lot as well, it's a highlighter I apply if it can be a little more and doesn't have to look all that natural.

Catrice Masquerade Ball and P2 Arctic White share the third place.

The Balm Shady Lady Vol. 1-3

Ich bin ein großer TheBalm Lidschattenfan. Nachdem ich schon die Shady Lady Vol 1 und 2 Palette habe, bin ich erfreut über die Neuigkeit, dass es nun auch schon die Vol. 3 Palette gibt :)

I am a huge TheBalm eye shadow fan. Since I already have the Shady Lady Palettes Vol 1 and 2 I was excited to find out that TheBalm just released the Vol. 3 Palette :)

The Balm Pick-up Liners

Bei meinem Douglas habe ich neulich festgestellt, dass der komplette TheBalm Restbestand nur noch 5€ pro Artikel kostet. Der Restbestand war jedoch nur noch sehr bescheiden. Ein paar Lippenstifte, Lipglosses, Overshadows sowie einige wenige Pick-Up Liner Sets

Da ich die Pick-Up Liners schon länger ins Auge gefasst habe, konnte ich da nicht widerstehen. Ich bin jedoch sehr sehr froh, dass ich die Pick-up Liners bisher nicht schon über's Internet bestellt habe. Die Kajals wirken im Internet irgendwie größer. Ok, es steht dabei, dass es sich dabei um Mini Kajals handelt, aber dass sie sooo Mini sind (6cm, ohne Deckel), hätte ich auch wieder nicht gedacht. Immerhin ist der Originalpreis in den USA stolze $19 bei uns kostet das Set regulär das gleiche nur in €. Neben den 3 MINI-Kajals ist auch ein Spitzer dabei, wobei ich das bei der Mini-Größe schon fast ironisch finde.

Wie dem auch sei, 5€ empfand ich als wesentlich angemessener...

I have been thinking about getting the Pick-up Liners from theBalm for quite a while. I am really glad I did not order them online. They look a lot bigger on pictures online. I know the packaging says "mini- eyeliner pencils", but I didn't think they were that mini! I got lucky because I found them in my Douglas for only 5€ ($6.70) instead of their regular price in Germany which is 19€ ($25). CRAZY who is willing to pay that much money for three 2.36'' eyeliner pencils and a sharpener. Well you for sure can not sharpen these a whole lot.

But for $6.7 I finally got the Pick-up Liners in "Karate" which includes the colors: blue, green and purple.

TheBalm has another set of Pick-up Liners in "Mickey" which includes grey, brown and black.

Mein Douglas hatte das Set nur noch in "Karate" (blau, grün und lila). Das Set hat mich jedoch ohnehin immer mehr interessiert, als das Set "Mickey" indem die Farben schwarz, braun und grau enthalten sind.

Die Kajals sind relativ fest, lassen sich aber ganz gut auftragen. Die Farben sind sehr dunkel, sodass man bei dämmrigem Licht von weitem nicht erkennen könnte, dass es sich hierbei um blau, grün oder lila handeln würde. Ideal sind die Kajals jedoch, wenn man mal was anderes als schwarz will, aber dabei nicht gleich auffallen möchte.

The pencil eyeliners are rather hard but you can still apply them. The colors are very dark so in bad lighting and from far away you will not be able to tell that the colors are blue, green or purple. The colors are great if you don't feel like black but also don't want to be too bright.

Fazit:

Insgesamt muss ich jedoch sagen, dass ich schon bessere Produkte von theBalm gesehen habe. Für 19€ kann man gut und gerne auf die Pick-up Liner verzichten. Wer wie ich die Möglichkeit hat sie für angemessene 5€ zu bekommen, kann ruhig zugreifen. Vor allem für unterwegs sind sie recht praktisch.

Conclusion:

Overall the Pick-Up Liners is not my favorite product from theBalm. I would never pay the full price but for only $6.7 you can't really go wrong. They have a very travel-friendly size ;)
